The kitty modeling the blue necklace is Carrie, who was rescued when a 90-year-old woman called the shelter saying that she already had 10 rescue animals and there was a stray cat that just gave birth to three kittens in her back yard. She now has a very happy home.

PAWSitively Cats is celebrating the shelter’s sixth birthday with a wine tasting benefit at CataVinos Wine Shoppe, 3063 N. Alvernon Way, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

The event includes a cat jewelry exchange β€” bring one creatively wrapped piece of cat-themed jewelry to give as a gift and draw another piece from the grab bag to take home. Clever wrappings are encouraged: use cat food labels, cartons, calendars, magazines or anything that sparks your imagination. There also will be raffle prizes.

Taste six wines with palate cleansers for $20, with $10 going to the cats. Tax-deductible. Non-alcohol options upon request. Donations of Friskies canned food will be gratefully accepted.

RSVP to 323-3063 or email savecats@PAWSitivelyCats.org.

PAWSitively Cats has rescued about 1,200 cats in its first six years.
