This summer, the Arizona Daily Star is working to introduce you to Tucson’s creative artists.

First up in the series is painter Maria Arvayo.

Arvayo pours hot wax mixed with colored pigments onto a panel to create an abstract painting. She also works in oil, pastel and watercolor.

Arvayo primarily works in oil, pastel, encaustic and watercolor, inspired by nature. In the summer, she likes to get an early start in an effort to take advantage of Tucson’s cooler mornings.

Arvayo spreads hot wax over a panel as she continues to work on a series of paintings.

Arvayo currently has a show at the Amerind Museum in Dragoon, consisting of landscapes. Catch it now through April 26, 2020, at 2100 N. Amerind Road.
