A couple of young runners sporting tutus make their way down the course while night falls on the nearly 3,000 runners raced down Sixth Ave. for the start of the Meet Me Downtown 5K in 2015.

More than 2,000 runners, joggers and walkers have signed up to hit the pavement in Tucson’s increasingly popular downtown on Saturday, June 2.

The event got its start 2006 with nearly 400 participants.β€œWe started it with the name in mind to throw a party for the city but now it seems the city has a party every week, said Randy Accetta, a former president of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners.

This year’s TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K Night Run/Walk and Festival of Miles includes music, a beer garden, live music, and a rockin’ after-party, said Accetta, who is also the race director for several other events such as the TMC Saguaro Labor Day 8-Miler.
