UA Presents, Broadway in Tucson shut for now

UA Presents, the University of Arizona arts presenter, will suspend the remainder of its season.

UA Presents, which performs at Centennial Hall on campus, had seven shows remaining. Centennial Hall is closed through April 19, which prompted another of its resident presenters, Broadway in Tucson, to cancel its six-day run of “Bronx Tale,” which was supposed to open March 24.

Biosphere 2 closes

The University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2, a science-based tourism attraction north of Tucson near Oracle, has suspended all public activities for an undetermined period of time. Information is on the UA COVID-19 site, www.arizona.edu/coronavirus-covid-19-information.

Pima County voting

Pima County residents planning to vote in the Democratic presidential preference election Tuesday, March 17, who have health or coronavirus concerns, “can avoid Election Day crowds” by participating in emergency voting Monday, March 16, said County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez.

Voters must sign a form stating they have an emergency and need to vote March 16 but don’t have to disclose specifics. People with non-health related emergencies can also vote at the sites Monday.

Emergency voting will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at: County Recorder’s Main Office, 240 North Stone Avenue, first floor; Recorder’s Office Annex, 6550 S. Country Club Road; and Recorder’s East Side Annex, 6920 E. Broadway, Suite D.

The recorder’s office has received more than 106,000 ballots in the mail, but about 42% of ballots are still with voters. Ballots can be dropped off at emergency voting sites on Monday or at polling places on Tuesday.

TEP cancels public meetings on power line

Tucson Electric Power is suspending two public open house meetings that were scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday next week on its proposed Kino to DeMoss-Petrie 138-kilovolt transmission line.

Public input opportunities will be posted later at tep.com/kino-to-demoss-petrie. Comments are still being accepted in writing and electronically.

Oro Valley cancels March events

The town canceled:

  • Second Saturdays at Steam Pump Ranch, Saturday, March 14
  • Public Art Tour, Tuesday, March 17
  • Bike/Swap/Sell, March 28

The March 18 and April 1 Town Council meetings will proceed but resident participation will be limited to video streaming of meetings at www.orovalleyaz.gov.

TSO suspends March performances

All performances of Tucson Symphony Orchestra from March 13 through March 31 will be suspended. These include “Barber Violin Concerto” on March 13 and 15, “American Soundtrack” on March 21-22, a film showing about the Young Composers Project on March 24, and “Bravo! An Admission-Free Concert” on March 27.

Arizona Theatre Co. suspends production

Arizona Theatre Co. has put the Tucson production of The Legend of Georgia McBride on hiatus starting Saturday, March 14 through the end of the month.

In addition, all ATC education programming in Tucson and Phoenix will be paused through March.

Sahuarita festival off for this weekend

The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) announced:

  • Sahuarita Creative Arts Festival in Sahuarita, March 14-15: postponed, will be rescheduled.
  • Oro Valley Festival of the Arts, March 28-29; and Sabrosita Sahuarita, April 24: Still set to take place.
Monster truck show at TCC is off for now

The monster truck show next weekend at the Tucson Convention Center Arena has been postponed from March 20 through March 22. New dates have not been set.

Folk Festival canceled

The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association canceled the 35th annual Tucson Folk Festival April 3-5. The festival was expected to draw about 14,000 people.

Pantano Christian Church services

Pantano Christian Church, 1755 S. Houghton Road and 10701 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way, will hold online-only services for at least two weeks and no on-campus meetings through March 28. Info: mypantano.church/covid.
