Riall is named chief of division of general surgery at UA

The University of Arizona Surgery Department has recruited Dr. Taylor S. Riall, a surgical oncologist, to be chief of the Division of General Surgery/Surgical Oncology.

She is internationally known for her research into comparative effectiveness “to understand the right treatment, for the right patient, in the right setting” and in patient-centered cancer and general surgery outcomes, UA said in a news release. She will join the department Oct. 1.

Riall, who specializes in complex disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, is coming to the UA from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where she is the John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Clinical Research and the director of the Center for Comparative Effectiveness and Outcomes. Her medical degree is from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
