Micah Schaad

Pima County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man suspected of burglarizing several Catalina Foothills houses in recent months.

Micah Schaad, 33, allegedly targeted wealthy homes in the Pima Canyon area. During one burglary, Schaad cut himself, leaving blood that detectives sent for DNA analysis, said Deputy Tracy Suitt.

Detectives used the state-owned Rapid Hit 200 to analyze the DNA and match it to Schaad. The Rapid Hit 200 returned a complete analysis in a few hours, rather than weeks as it usually does, Suitt said.

Schaad was arrested at the Reid Park Zoo on Oct. 21 and is being held in the Pima County jail. He is charged with four counts of second-degree burglary.

He was initially charged with one count of second-degree burglary, but detectives linked him to three other recent burglaries, Suitt said.

The number of burglary charges could rise if detectives connect Schaad to other recent incidents.
