The free event is open to the public and is being put on by the Tucson Unified School District’s African American Student Services Department.

Fisher, a U.S. Navy veteran who overcame a rough childhood, was the inspiration for a 2002 movie directed by and starring Denzel Washington.

Registration and sign-in will start at 5:30 p.m. The program will start at 6 p.m. in the Palo Verde High School auditorium, 1302 S. Avenida Vega.
