A 6-year-old boy died Friday after an accident involving a UPS delivery truck in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 6200 S. Campbell Ave.

A 6-year-old boy riding his bicycle was struck by a UPS truck and killed at an apartment complex on the city’s south side Friday.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Department were at the scene at Rancho del Mar apartments, 6200 S. Campbell Ave., into the night, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a department spokeswoman.

The incident occurred at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the large complex, which was formerly Las MontaΓ±as Apartments, Bay said.

The boy, who attended Ocotillo Learning Center in the Sunnyside Unified School District, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Apartment residents β€” some looking down into the parking lot from their third-floor balconies β€” were somber and quiet.

No further information was released by police.
