Mount Lemmon had received two inches of snow by early Monday morning.

Catalina Highway is closed at the base of Mt. Lemmon due to snow, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a tweet Monday morning.

Chains or four-wheel drive are required.

About 8:30 a.m., the sheriff's department tweeted Mt. Lemmon received two inches of snow Monday morning.Β 

Meanwhile, the Associated Press is reporting that snow and ice is slowing traffic on highways in parts of northern Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reports that traffic slowing Monday morning in the Flagstaff area on Interstates 17 and 40. The Prescott also is getting snow.

ADOT recommends that travelers allot additional time for travel due to the weather conditions, the AP said.

A winter weather advisory will remain in effect until late Monday for areas above 6,000 feet, including Flagstaff and Jacob Lake north of the Grand Canyon.

Sow accumulations are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches at elevations around 6,500 feet and 2 to 4 inches above 6,500 feet, including Flagstaff.

Higher amounts are expected on mountain peaks and parts of the eastern Mogollon Rim.
