Bennu's Journey

While the people behind OSIRIS-REx bite their nails in anticipation of the launch, mission-viewing parties will take place at several restaurants and at the University of Arizona.

Can’t make it to Cape Canaveral to watch the OSIRIS-REx launch? Don’t worry, you can celebrate with several events around Tucson.

Maynards Market & Kitchen has partnered with the University of Arizona and Time in Cosmology to prepare a special Space Dinner on Wednesday, the night before blastoff. You can tuck into a prix fixe meal and a night of stargazing for $45.

On Thursday, both the UA and Hotel Congress will host viewing parties of the launch.

Festivities on campus begin at 2 p.m. on the mall. KAMP Student Radio will emcee the event, which will include music, trivia, giveaways and guest speaker Neal Armstrong — not the astronaut who walked on the moon, but the associate vice president of the Office for Research and Discovery.

At 4 p.m., both venues will stream the launch live. After the rocket successfully takes off, the party on the mall will wind down while other events begin at Hotel Congress.

The Physics Factory Bus will make a stop, wowing audiences with scientific demonstrations. A DJ will take over the hotel plaza at 6 p.m., and the UA Astronomy Club will guide patrons in stargazing from 9 to 10 p.m.
