A 16-year old boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital Saturday night after a car accident earlier that morning on the east side of Tucson.Β
Austin Butler was traveling east on East Speedway when his truck hit the raised median atΒ East Esperanza Drive at about 3:30 a.m. According to a Tucson Police Department news release, theΒ 1999 Ford pickup truck hit several palo verde trees and rolled over. Butler was the only person in the vehicle.Β
When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses were performing first aid on the occupant. Butler was taken to Banner-University Medical Center, and died just before 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Speed may have been a factor in the crash, says the news release. Detectives are investigating whether impairment played a role as well. Β Β
