Border Patrol agents who witnessed a rollover accident Wednesday on Interstate 10 and went to provide aid to the occupants discovered the vehicle was carrying undocumented immigrants in a smuggling attempt, the agency said.

The agents were westbound on I-10 east of Benson when they saw a white pickup truck turned upside down. The agents arrived at the scene and begin administering first aid to the occupants, according to Customs and Border Protection.

There were seven people in the truck, including five Mexican nationals who were in the country illegally, and two U.S. citizens, CBP said in a news release.

The two male U.S. citizens were taken to a hospital for evaluation of their injuries. Only one of the illegal immigrants required treatment at a hospital, CBP said.

The five Mexican nationals were arrested and were to be deported. The two U.S. citizens are facing prosecution for smuggling, the agency said.
