The tutoring platform Paper is becoming part of the fabric of Sabino High School.

Sabino students can get on-demand and multilingual homework help, study support, and writing feedback provided by professional tutors, and families are not charged for the service.

Tucson Unified School District’s strategic partnership with the on-demand academic support platform will also be used to support select students from HEART Cares and Asian Pacific and Refugee Student Services.

It started in December as a Sabino High pilot project, and the district has now deemed it to be a good fit. Once students returned to class from winter break, Paper went from pilot to partner.

According to Sabino Principal Kevin Amidan, his northeast-side school, at 5000 N. Bowes Road, is comprised of 75% open enrollment students, and 65% of its students participate in an extracurricular activity.

β€œOur students travel from all areas of our county, thus limiting their time allotment for tutoring and study time,” Amidan said. β€œPaper has given our students the option to seek support 24/7, which will lead to improved student achievement and growth due to their deeper understanding of the content and ability to build on their foundational knowledge.”

Paper is an educational support system that provides students live academic support, practice, and career and college readiness help.

Through the review center, writing tutors offer feedback on various assignments, including lab reports, essays, short-answer questions, college applications and rΓ©sumΓ©s.

Students can also work on their career and college readiness using Paper’s MajorClarity. Students can use that facet of Paper to explore diverse careers, prepare for their futures, and research academic institutions. It helps prepare students for higher education, the military, professional certifications or the workforce.

Paper Missions are interactive missions that allow students to refine their math and vocabulary skills at their own pace. Paper Reading is a tool that listens to students as they read aloud, offering immediate and actionable feedback along with progress monitoring.

β€œHaving this unlimited access to support on classroom content and standardized test prep that can be done around travel time and extracurricular involvement will help assist our students in reaching their highest potential,” Amidan said.

According to Paper’s website, the company hires β€œhigh-performing college students, PhD candidates and teachers with expertise across K-12 subject areas.” The platform does not utilize robots or AI-generated content.

β€œChoosing to partner with Paper has proven to be the optimal decision for TUSD’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusiveness (EDI) department,” said Kinasha Brown, TUSD’s assistant superintendent of EDI, in a news release.

β€œAmong its top priorities is delivering academic and social-emotional support to unleash the full potential of every learner in the district. The availability of quality high-dosage tutoring anytime, anywhere is set to be a transformative game-changer for our students.”

Being able to speak in multiple languages is a very beneficial skill and thankfully it's easier than ever now to learn a language.
