Two men were arrested after a severely neglected horse was discovered on Tucson’s far south side.

The horse was discovered by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department during an unrelated investigation. The animal showed sever signs of malnutrition and a detective alerted the agency’s community problems unit.

On Thursday at 8 a.m., authorities responded to the 10200 block of South Summit Peak Place, east of South Nogales Highway, to execute a search warrant related to the horse.

The horse was seized and taken to a local rescue for care and rehabilitation.

Favian Dominguez, 38, and 58-year-old Valentin Dominguez were arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals.

The investigation is ongoing.
