The skeletal remains of two people were found inside a house in Sonoita that burned down early Wednesday morning.

The fire began just after midnight and completely engulfed the house in flames, said Santa Cruz County Sheriff Antonio Estrada.Β 

A married couple, a 63-year-old wife and 69-year-old husband, lived in the house in the 2700 block of Arizona 82, and authorities believe they were the victims, Estrada said. Autopsies are scheduled for Thursday, June 23.Β 

A crime scene unit from the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner and an arson investigator from the Corona de Tucson Fire Department were sent to the scene of the fire, Estrada said.Β 

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.Β 

The fire destroyed several vehicles, but the horses that live on the property were unharmed, he said.Β
