CASPER, Wyo. — A former Wyoming physician accused of dealing drugs that caused the death of an Arizona woman goes to trial this week.
Shakeel Kahn faces charges including conspiracy to distribute prescription drugs resulting in death.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports a judge denied a request by Kahn to change the trial date set for Thursday in U.S. District Court in Casper.
Prosecutors say customers paid Kahn $500 for opioid and anti-anxiety prescriptions. Jessica Burch filled prescriptions allegedly signed by Kahn two days before she died in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in 2015.
Prosecutors allege people traveled from as far as Massachusetts and Washington to pick up and fill prescriptions written by Kahn in Wyoming. Kahn has pleaded not guilty.
