An illegal immigrant who sought sanctuary in a Tucson church to avoid deportation for the second time will get to go home again.

Daniel Neyoy Ruiz moved into First Christian Church nine days ago when his one-year stay of deportation expired.

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement announced Thursday it had renewed the stay for another year.

Neyoy Ruiz was the first of several illegal immigrants in Arizona to take sanctuary in a church when he moved into Southside Presbyterian Church last year. He was granted the reprieve nearly a month later.

Rosa Robles Loreto, a Tucson woman who also faces deportation, moved into Southside Presbyterian shortly after and has been there for 10 months.

Their attorney says they don’t fall into categories that would make them a priority for deportation.
