A TUSD teacher had his teaching license revoked after showing up to work under the influence of drugs.

David Mielke resigned following the incident last November and the Arizona State Board of Education finalized a decision to pull his credentialsΒ late last month.

On Nov. 17, Robison Elementary Principal Julie Laird was alerted by staff that Mielke, a special education teacher, appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Laird saw Mielke leaning to one side, weaving as he walked and slurring his speech before taking him to a medical clinic for drug and alcohol testing.

Following the test, Mielke told Laird he had taken oxycodone that was not prescribed to him.

About a week later, the testing confirmed that the painkiller hydrocodone was in his system along with benzodiazepines β€” a sedative β€” and marijuana.
