Some Tucson Water customers have received telephone calls about delinquent accounts.

Problem is, the callers are not employees of the utility company.

The phony callers tell customers their accounts are delinquent and ask for financial information to prevent their water service from being cut off, Fernando Molina, spokesman for Tucson Water, said in a news release.

However, Tucson Water employees do not call customers who are behind on payments.

“Tucson Water policy is to provide written notification of account delinquency or service interruption using regular mail service,” Molina said. “Tucson Water does not request payment information over the telephone.”

Anyone who receives such a call — or customers who want to verify the status of their accounts — should call Tucson Water customer service at 791-3242.
