TUSD school bus fire

No children were on board and the driver was not harmed when this TUSD bus caught fire Feb. 10. The district is trying to recoup its $145,000 value.

One month following a TUSD school bus fire in downtown Tucson, the investigation continues and 11 other similar vehicles remain parked.

No children were on board the 5-year-old bus when the fire broke out and the driver was not injured.

While a preliminary review suggested that the fire may have been the result of an electrical issue, a thorough inspection of the bus was conducted Tuesday and the Tucson Unified School District is waiting to learn the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the vehicle.

The bus was dismantled with vendors and contractors observing in the event that claims are brought against any of the entities that sold or performed work on it.

Interviews have also been conducted of the driver, fleet manager and maintenance personnel.

Once the school district is advised of the cause, it will make a decision about returning the other buses to service.
