TUSD offers scholarship for youth entrepreneur program
Tucson Unified School District is offering scholarships to middle and high school students who want to participate in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy.
Twenty-four students will be granted $850 toward their $949 to enroll in the academy, which is a program sponsored by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation and hosted by the University of Arizonaβs Eller College of Business.
The program helps young entrepreneurs turn their ideas into success. More than 4,000 students have graduated from the academy nationwide. The academy operates in more than 100 communities across 38 states.
Students between the ages of 11 and 18 years old can apply. Classes begin in the fall and meet once a week on Mondays through May 2017.

Verizon retailers giving away backpacks in national campaign
Tucson kids could receive free backpacks through a national giveaway campaign.
TCC and A Wireless, both of which are Verizon Wireless retailers, are partnering to give away backpacks at eight Tucson locations between noon and 3 p.m. July 30.
Those locations are:

- 4758 Sunrise Drive
- 1580 E. Tucson Marketplace Blvd., Suite 160
- 7401 N. LaCholla Blvd, Suite 156
- 5870 E. Broadway, Suites 101 and 142
- 7056 E. Golf Links Road
- 7245 E. Tanque Verde, Suite 135
- 4500 N. Oracle Road, Suites 119 and 215
Since 2013, TCC has given out 360,000 backpacks filled with school supplies nationwide.
Hollinger set to get free fitness center from national foundation
Hollinger K-8 School will receive a free fitness center after being named one of three winners of a multi-million dollar physical fitness campaign from the National Foundation for Governorsβ Fitness Councils.
The fitness center, estimated to cost about $100,000, is financed through public-private partnerships. Partners include the Coca-Cola Co., Nike and the CareMore Foundation.
Two other Arizona schools were named winners: Hulet Elementary and Junior High School in Holbrook and Stanfield Elementary School in Stanfield.
Credit union raises $50K for teachers at golf event
Pima Federal Credit Union raised $50,000 for Tucson teachers through its Pima Federal Golf Classic tournament.
The credit union partnered with Tucson Values Teachers to provide $50 gift cards for local teachers to buy school supplies.
It created the event in response to teachers spending their own money to buy supplies. Since 2012, the credit union has raised about $262,000.
