CHANDLER, Ariz. โ An elementary school teacher faces second-degree murder charges after causing a crash that left another woman dead, authorities say.
Erica Kristine Flynn, 30, ran a red light on Dec. 27, while heading south on Arizona Avenue near Loop 2002 in Chandler, KPHO-TV reports. She hit a vehicle that was making a left turn.
Police say Flynn was driving more than 75 miles per hour and did not apply the brakes.
Kathleen Mae Searcy, 66, was killed.
Flynn had a blood alcohol content that was over three times the legal threshold. She was a first-year teacher at Frye Elementary School.
A spokesman for the Chandler Unified School District said Flynn would not be returning next semester.
