A man was stabbed once in the upper back at a car wash in Rio Rico Monday.

The 42-year-old victim was treated and released from Holy Cross Hospital in Nogales after the 1 p.m. assault at the Rio Rico Car Wash, said Sheriff Tony Estrada of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department.

The car wash is in the 1200 block of West Frontage Road.

Investigators will review a surveillance video Tuesday, said Estrada. There are no leads on the whereabouts of the assailant, he said.

The victim called 911 and reported the stabbing at about 1 p.m. He told investigators that he was vacuuming his truck and someone came up behind him and stabbed him, Estrada said. The victim said the assailant then took off running north from the car wash.

Two people were questioned but do not appear to be connected to the assault, said Estrada.

The assailant was described as a white man who was wearing a red shirt and dark-colored jeans, Estrada said.

"We do not know if it was a random act of violence, or the victim was targeted," said Estrada. He said investigators do not know the motive.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.Β
