Pima County Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating a fatal shooting at a residence in Mescal Feb. 18, 2016, authorities said.

A 25-year-old man was fatally shot in Mescal Thursday morning at a residence in the rural area.

Thomas Nordseth was taken to a trauma center where he died of his injuries, said Deputy Courtney Rodriguez, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.

Shortly before noon, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 15000 block of South Lovell Road and found Nordseth with a gunshot wound, said Rodriguez. She said an 89-year-old man, who did not have injuries, was also in the residence.

Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting. It was not known what circumstances led up to the shooting, Rodriguez said.

Detectives ask that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME.
