A shooting Tuesday morning on the 5600 block of East Pima Road involved a Tucson police officer.

Tucson police officers shot and wounded a man Tuesday morning during a confrontation in a midtown neighborhood.

The incident started about 9:30 a.m. when police were called to the 5600 block of East Pima Street by neighbors who said a man carrying a knife was being "aggressive" with passersby, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a department spokesman.

Officers found the knife-wielding man walking in the area. While talking to him, police say the man produced a gun.

At least two officers fired on the man, Dugan said. It was not known if the man fired at officers.

Officers were not injured.

The man was in stable condition at a hospital police said shortly before noon today.

The neighborhood is near North Craycroft Road. Traffic in the area is restricted while police investigate.
