With three heat-related hiker rescues already today, the Pima County Sheriff's Department is asking the public to limit their hiking activity for the rest of the day.

Lower temperatures like today's can be deceiving when combined with high humidity, and will actually dehydrate a person faster, said department spokesman Deputy Tom Peine.

Search and rescue deputiesΒ hiking up towards a patient on Romero Trail were handing out water to dehydrated hikers they passed along the way, Peine said.

Consider postponing any hikes planned for this afternoon or at the very least, bring extra water.

The hydration rule for hiking in normal conditions is one quart per hour per person, so that amount should be increased on days with higher heat or humidity.
