Joel D. Valdez Library

The Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave., will close at 6 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays.

Just when you think the library can't get any cooler, it adds a telescope to its inventory of things you can check out.

The Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association (TAAA) has gifted a 4.5 inch Orion AstroBlast telescope to the Joel D. Valdez Main Library for the community to check out.

The telescope is simple to use and compact, but powerful enough to see the moon, planets and distant celestial objects, making it a good one for beginners.

To celebrate, the library is hosting a moon-viewing party Saturday. Wear your Halloween costume for the chance to win a small refractor telescope.

At the party, you'll learn how to look at the moon with the Orion AstroBlast and learn tips and tricks on how to use it on your own. There will also be a Portable Planetarium and science experiements with Brain S.T.E.M.
