Three people have been displaced following an early morning attic fire in a house on the east side of town, officials said.
At about 3:25 a.m., someone called 911 to report a roof on fire in the 4500 block of East Douglas, near South Swan Road and East 22nd Street, said Capt. Andy Skaggs, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
The first unit was on scene within five minutes, with the residents of the home were already waiting outside as firefighters brought hose lines inside the house, Skaggs said.
Firefighters found no smoke inside the house, but outside crews could see smoke still coming from the eaves of the roof. A ladder truck cut a hole in the roof, causing heavy smoke to roll out and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, Skaggs said.
It took nine units and 22 firefighters just more than 20 minutes to control the fire. The home's occupants, a husband and wife in their 40s and their 21-year-old nephew, will be staying with relatives.
Fire investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was electrical, but a damage estimate has yet to be determined, Skaggs said.
