Two A-10 Thunderbolt II ground-attack jets from Davis-Monthan Air Force base will fly over U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday during the opening ceremonies for the Super Bowl.
The planes from the D-M’s A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team will fly alongside one F-16 Fighting Falcon and a World War II-era P-51 Mustang at Sunday’s game, in a first for the Air Force’s Heritage Flight program, D-M said.
The F-16 is from the Viper Demo Team based at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, and the P-51 Mustang is from the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation in California.
The A-10 team is performing demos for the first time in seven years for the 2018 air show season. The team originally consisted of two east and west counterparts before both were deactivated in 2011.
