A man who was served more than a decade in prison in Mexico for killing a Border Patrol agent was apprehended Sunday, after he illegally crossed into the United States, authorities said.
Tucson Border Patrol agents arrested Francisco Javier Rosas-Molina, whoΒ is now facing charges by the U.S. Attorney's Office for illegal re-entry of an aggravated felon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Erin B. Jackson said in a news release.
Rosas-Molina was convicted in Mexico for the February 2003 killing of Border Patrol Agent Jorge Salomon-Martinez, who was traveling off-duty near Sonora at the time of his death, Jackson said.
Salomon-Martinez met Rosas-Molina and three other men in the city of Caneana, and went out to have drinks with them, according to the Arizona Daily Star archives.
WhenΒ the men discovered he was a Border Patrol agent, they apparently attacked him and beat him to death. Rosas-Molina was arrested within days of the incident.
He previously served 108 days in jail for a 2002 arrest in Cochise County for possession of marijuana for transport, Jackson said.
