The 54-year-old woman convicted of striking and killing Tucson’s “Umbrella Lady” last year was sentenced to six months in prison Monday, the Pima County Attorney’s Office said.

In June, Guadalupe Theresa Solis pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the January 2023 accident after striking Lydia Reis, known as “The Umbrella Lady,” with a vehicle.

Solis will also serve four years of probation and her license will be suspended for 10 years, KOLD reported.

Reis, 63, was in the roadway on Ina Road near Giaconda Way about 6:30 a.m. Jan 5, 2023, when she was struck by Solis’ eastbound vehicle.

Reis was taken to a local hospital in an extremely critical condition and died from her injuries three days later.

Fondly known as the Umbrella Lady, Lydia Reis was remembered at a memorial at Tohono Chul Park, Monday, Jan. 30, 2023. Reis died three days after she was hit by a vehicle Jan. 5.
