School instruments

The Tucson Unified School District collected 85 instruments during a two-day effort.

Violins, violas, cellos, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, trombones, drum sets, guitars, electric keyboards and instrumental supplies were donated by community members earlier this month.

Others have contacted the district about bringing instruments in after the holidays, which will likely bring the count closer to 100, a TUSD official said.

The gifts came with sentimental stories of family members who played in big bands and in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as well as people who had played in TUSD high school bands and orchestras.
