Interstate 10 reopened Thursday night in both directions east of Tucson from U.S. Highway 191 to Lordsburg, New Mexico after the clearing of blowing dust.

Authorities advised motorists to drive carefully on the highways, said Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

There was a series of weather related crashes earlier Thursday on I-10 at San Simon. A total of 12 vehicles were involved in the crashes, according to DPS spokesman Trooper Kameron Lee.

The vehicles involved a tractor-trailer rig, San Simon Fire truck and a DPS SUV.

Motorists had to use an alternate route during the closure, which was 110 miles long, said Arizona Department of Transportation officials.
