Authorities have publicly identified an armed robbery suspect shot and killed by a Tucson police officer Monday.

Mark Powell, 39, died at a hospital shortly after police said he held up a check-cashing store and pulled out a handgun during a confrontation with officers who responded.

Tucson Police Department has yet to identify the officer involved in the incident that unfolded around 9 a.m. Monday at Ace Cash Express on East Fort Lowell Road near North First Avenue.

TPDโ€™s Office of Professional Standards is conducting an administrative investigation to review police handling of the situation. Such reviews are standard protocol in all officer-involved shootings, the department said in a Facebook post.

TPDโ€™s Critical Incident Review Board also will evaluate the police response.
