A man was arrested Saturday in the killing of his mother, according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to a call at 6:45 p.m. from a woman believed to be Laurie Vandegrift, 59, in the 7400 block of South Cactus Thorn Lane, off of East Old Spanish Trail.
During the call, Vandegrift requested law enforcement before the phone disconnected. When the number was called back, a man believed to be Justin Vandegrift, Laurie’s son, answered and said everything was fine.
Upon arrival, deputies found Laurie Vandegrift dead inside her home with obvious signs of trauma, the release said.
Justin Vandegrift, 28, was found and arrested several hours later at a nearby convenience store.
