Tucson firefighters responded to an apartment fire, which displaced three tenants on Tucson's east side Sunday afternoon.
A fire crew was dispatched at 12:54 p.m. to the apartment in the area of 5th Street and Wilmot Road. A resident initially reported smoke was coming out of vents inside their ground floor apartment.
Firefighters found nothing when they arrived but after further investigation, they found a "small contents" fire in a bedroom.ย
The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes and no one was reported injured, the department said in a news release.
While the fire did not spread to the actual structure, three residents were displaced due to smoke damage.
Fire investigators noted the fire may have been caused by a portable battery pack that malfunctioned. A smoke alarm was found inside the apartment but it was missing a battery.
Residents should have fully functional smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, the department said, and it's important to check on electrical items plugged in to charge.
