A girl has died after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a vehicle collision on Tucson's east side Wednesday evening.ย
Tucson police officers and fire crews responded to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Harrison Road and Broadway Boulevard around 7:30 p.m.
They found the girl, identified as 10-year-old Trelyn Thorns, her mother and another driver were involved in the collision. ย ย
Detectives determined Thorns and her mother were approaching a green light in a gray 2003 Honda CRV heading southbound on Harrison Road. A driver of a gray 2012 Lexus left a parking lot on the northeast corner of Broadway Boulevard heading westbound and failed to stop at a red light.ย
The Lexus struck the Honda causing the vehicle to roll. Thorns was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred, a department news release said.
Community members rolled the vehicle over from the passenger side in an attempt to render aid to Thorns. Fire crews transported her to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Her mother suffered minor injuries and the driver of the Lexus was not injured in the incident.
While detectives determined neither driver was impaired and no citations have been issued, they are attempting to find if speed was a factor. No further details have been released.ย
