Tucson factory silent: Colorful world of Lisa Frank fades

The now rarely photographed Lisa Frank posed at her company's Tucson headquarters in 2003. It once bustled with hundreds of employees and now has six staff members.

Anyone who grew up in Tucson likely remembers the brightly colored Lisa Frank factory on Tucson's south side, or perhaps the store that used to be housed in the Tucson Mall.

But far from just Tucsonans, anyone who was around in the 1980s and 1990s likely remembers the brightly colored hearts, stars and unicorns that emblazoned school supplies across the country.

Great Big Story, "a video network dedicated to the untold, overlooked, and flat-out amazing," produced a short video about Tucson business maven Lisa Frank, exploring her notorious secrecy and the company's 30-year history and how its changed with the times.
