Cochise County authorities are investigating the death of a 35-year-old inmate at the jail in Bisbee.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, Derrick Joe Worcester became unconscious and unresponsive while in his cell, said Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman.
Worcester was assessed by the jail's medical staff earlier in the morning after becoming nauseous the night before, and was last checked on eighteen minutes before he was found unresponsive, Capas said.
Medical employees and jail staff tended to Worcester before transporting him to Copper Queen Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The Pima County Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy, but cause of death and toxicology results are pending. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation into Worcester's death, Capas said.
Worcester was arrested Tuesday by Tombstone Marshals, in connection with charges of motor vehicle theft, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia, Capas said.
