Rural/Metro Fire Capt. Bob Bell, with his Ben’s Bell, center, and his crew with the Sternberg family.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Capt. Bob Bell, Rural/Metro Fire Department.

Nominated by: Bronwyn Sternberg.

Why: For helping Sternberg’s son, Alston, adjust to his first days in kindergarten. Alston likes to regularly visit Bell’s fire station, and when Bell heard Alston was having a tough time adjusting during the first week of school, Bell paid him a special visit, Sternberg wrote in her nomination letter.

Bell and his crew visited Alston’s classroom and talked to all the students. Bell gave Alston a “Pete the Cat” book with a special note inside about being brave. “As a parent, words cannot describe the kindness and thoughtfulness he delivered that day,” Sternberg wrote.
