A hiker was rescued Monday from a rugged ravine in Pima Canyon by a Blackhawk helicopter.
Shortly before 4 p.m., an Air and Marine UH60 Blackhawk crew responded to a report of a hiker in distress in Pima Canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains, authorities said in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release Tuesday.
Pima County Sheriff's deputies were on scene and requested an air evacuation. The man was found in a rugged ravine about a mile north of the Pima Canyon trail head, which made ground evacuation "extremely dangerous," authorities said.
The Blackhawk was equipped with a hoist device capable of lowering and lifting equipment and personnel from the helicopter, officials said.
The man was lifted into the helicopter and received medical treatment by the crew before he was transported to nearby medical personnel who took him to a hospital, said officials.
