Border agents near the Nogales crossing arrested two people in connection with separate attempted drug smuggling incidents on Tuesday, officials say.

On Tuesday morning, a 33-year-old woman, who is a U.S. citizen, was referred for inspection of her vehicle, said a news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. A drug dog alerted to a scent in the car's dashboard.

Officers found more than 26 pounds of fentanyl and 2.5 pounds of heroin, the release says. The combined estimated value of the drugs is said to be $428,000.

Later, border agents referred a 46-year-old man, a Mexican national, for further inspection of his car. A drug dog alerted to a scent in the car, and agents were able to find more than three pounds of fentanyl, five pounds of cocaine, and seven pounds of methamphetamine.

The combined value is said to be $185,300, according to the release.

The vehicles and drugs were seized from both incidents and both people were arrested. No further information has been released.
