An undocumented Guatemalan man was rescued Thursday from mountainous terrain southwest of Three Points by federal agents.

The 19-year-old man, who had a broken ankle, was rescued by Border Patrol agents and an Air and Marine Operations Blackhawk helicopter, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release Friday.

An agent found the injured man on a mountainside in the Coyote Mountains Wilderness area. The area has rugged peaks, massive rounded bluffs, sheer cliff faces and large open canyons, officials said.

The agent called for assistance from Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue team, known as BORSTAR, because of the remote location.

A Blackhawk aircrew transported rescue team agents to the site, and once the man was stabilized he was lifted to safety, said authorities. The man was taken to a Three Points Fire Department ambulance and then transported to a hospital, said officials.
