More than two tons of marijuana found in two commercial shipments were discovered at a Nogales border crossing since Saturday, authorities said.
On Feb. 28, more than 2,900 pounds of marijuana was found in 125 bundles in a box truck, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.
The marijuana was worth an estimated $1.5 million, authorities said.
The marijuana was detected by a drug-sniffing dog at the Mariposa Commercial Facility when officers inspected the box truck.
On Feb. 25, about 1,700 pounds of marijuana was found in the roof area of a tractor-trailer loaded with corn, officials said. The marijuana was worth an estimated $838,000, and also was discovered at the Mariposa Commercial Facility.
The drugs, vehicles and commodities were seized and both drivers, who were Mexican nationals, were arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
