A Mexican man in federal custody died Wednesday at the Eloy Detention Center, about 60 miles north of Tucson.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, staff found Jose de Jesus Deniz-Sahagun, 31, unresponsive in his cell. Efforts by Eloy personnel and emergency responders to revive him were unsuccessful, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.

Deniz-Sahagun had no signs of injury, ICE said, and an autopsy is pending.

He had been transferred to ICE custody Monday after he tried to enter into the United States in Douglas on May 15, the release said.

The Mexican Consulate in Tucson is aware of the incident and has been in communication with Deniz-Sahagun's mother, Ricardo Pineda, the consul said.

Deniz-Sahagun had been deported twice in the last four years, according to ICE. The most recent one in April 2013, after the Border Patrol arrested him near Calexico, California.

At the time of his death, ICE said, he was awaiting a hearing before an immigration judge on his pending deportation.

Deniz-Sahagun is the fourth detainee to die in ICE custody nationwide in fiscal year 2015 β€” which ends Sept. 30.
