Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

Borderlands Produce Rescue: Public Interest Registry, the people behind the .ORG domain, named Borderlands Produce Rescue a 2023 .ORG Impact Awards finalist. The program recognizes and rewards outstanding mission-driven individuals and organizations from around the world for their positive contributions to society. Borderlands Produce Rescue was selected among applications from more than 70 countries for their work in environmental sustainability by preventing 20-30 million pounds of fresh produce from being sent to Arizona landfills each year.

CPLC Prestamos: Prestamos CDFI, a division of Chicanos Por La Causa, announced the award of $65 million in New Markets Tax Credits from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. Prestamos is a community development entity that provides capital to businesses and community services projects in highly distressed, low-income communities in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas. This year’s award is the single largest granted in Prestamos’ history and represents the highest amount awarded in 2023 among top recipients across the country. Prestamos has received a cumulative total of $170 million through five previous NMTC awards.

Jacqueline Ryan: SingleCare announced the winners of its fifth annual Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards, which recognizes those who go above and beyond in keeping their communities healthy. Jacqueline Ryan, a pharmacy tech at Fry’s in Tucson, was named among the top pharmacy technicians in the nation. Ryan has worked for 20 years as a pharmacy technician at Fry’s. Best of the Best honors the exceptional work of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy teams nationwide.

Tucson Federal Credit Union: Tucson Federal Credit Union won the Member Program Award at the GoWest Credit Union Association’s annual MAXX Convention. The award recognizes a credit union that has developed an initiative, business model, program or service that addresses the local, social, cultural or economic needs that are specific to the credit union’s membership. TFCU’s Multicultural Empowerment Center provides financial education and career development tools at its west branch on South Mission Road. Both for- and non-profit businesses refer clients and employees to the MEC, which provides a Kid’s Corner for parents. TFCU has also offered virtual and off-site opportunities since it opened in November 2021.
