The city of Tucson has opened cooling centers from noon to 6 p.m. daily through Friday.

The city of Tucson has opened cooling centers through Friday where people can go to escape the scorching heat this week.

The six cooling centers β€” one in each ward β€” will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. The highs the next few days could reach 113 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The centers are located at:

Ward 1: El Rio Center, 1390 W. Speedway.

Ward 2: Udall Sr. Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road.

Ward 3: Donna Liggins Center, 2160 N. Sixth Ave.

Ward 4: Clements Center, 8155 E. Poinciana Drive.

Ward 5: El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road, Building 9.

Ward 6: Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way.

After Friday, these cooling centers will resume operations after Friday on any day with temperatures forecasted for over 110Β° F.

β€œThe safety of our community is always of utmost importance to me, which is why I have requested that the city of Tucson offer air-conditioned cooling centers in convenient locations open to everyone in the community during this heat emergency,” said Romero.

Masks will be encouraged and centers will be operating at reduced capacity, following precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

There are also several cooling stations available for the homeless in the Tucson area:

Salvation Army Hospitality House, 1002 N. Main Ave.; from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Indoor heat relief, water, snacks and supplies during the posted hours. Water available at the door throughout the day.

South Community Center, 1625 S. Third Ave., noon to 5 p.m. each day. Water, snacks and supplies available during the posted hours; water available at the door throughout the day.

La Frontera RAPP, 1082 E. Ajo Way, Suite 100 (rear), 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Water, snacks and supplies.

Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St., 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Outdoor shade area, water bottle filling stations, showers and snacks.

An August, 2020, heatwave continued into a second week in Tucson and throughout Arizona. Tucson broke a record with a high temperature of 111-degrees. Most days bounce around from 106-109, with little monsoon rain to cool the afternoons. Video by Josh Galemore / Arizona Daily Star
