Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to visit the Border Patrol station in Nogales, Arizona, later this week, a White House official told CNN.

Pence is expected to visit on Thursday, CNN reported. He is expected to meet with Customs and Border Protection officials in Nogales, CNN stated Tuesday.

Details of the visit could not be independently confirmed.

CBP officials in Arizona referred questions to the White House.

The visit will come less than a week after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned in what appears to a be a shake-up of top immigration officials in the Trump administration.

The U.S. border with Mexico has seen a rapid and significant rise in arrests of illegal border crossers, mainly Central American families seeking asylum.
