A man who pled guilty to killing his girlfriend more than two years ago was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, officials say.

Israel Mendoza Jr., 43, admitted to stabbing his girlfriend to death on July 14, 2016 in a guilty plea recorded Nov. 28.

A Pima County judge handed down the 20-year sentence to Mendoza for one count of second-degree murder involving domestic violence Monday afternoon.
