A Tucson man convicted of first degree murder in the 2018 shooting death of his wife was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
Pima County prosecutors say Leroy Calderon Jr. was in a car on Interstate 10 with his wife and young son in February 2018 when he got into an argument with his spouse.
They say Calderon took out a gun and threatened his wife with a knife while she was driving.
He grabbed the steering wheel and forced the car into a median.
When his wife stopped the car and tried to run away, prosecutors say Calderon shot her in the back and paralyzed her.
They say Calderon got out of the vehicle and fatally shot his wife in the back of the head.
